Our west coast business has more than doubled in the last two years as we have built significant relationships with some of the world’s top technology and social media companies.  In order to support our growth to date and continued expansion goals in 2019 we are looking for a Senior Vice President to join our team in San Francisco, lead the San Francisco and Seattle offices of Edelman Intelligence, and our larger relationship with Edelman on the west coast.

When will I start?

The sooner the better – finding the right person is more important than getting someone quickly.  That said, we are busy and eager to bring this SVP on board ASAP.  

Who will I report to?

The SVP of the western region will report directly to Antoine Harary, the Global Managing Director of Edelman Intelligence.

Who will report to me?

The Senior Vice President will manage a team of four to five direct reports including the Vice Presidents in the San Francisco and Seattle offices – all who have additional team members that report into them.  Additionally, this individual will have the support of the broader Edelman Intelligence Marketing Sciences and Operations teams. 

What will I do?

First and foremost, we are looking for an individual that can leverage their combined experience in research and communications strategy to build credibility and partnerships within the Edelman team on the west coast.   To date, the Edelman Intelligence team has done an amazing job of growing as an independent brand in the region.   That said, there is significant opportunity for Edelman Intelligence to incorporate our offering into Edelman’s client’s strategic communications plans.  Ultimately, we are looking for an individual that can accomplish this objective and help drive continued revenue growth on the west coast.  They will be a creative researcher, approaching client challenges with the assumption that “no need is unsolvable” and thinking of new ways to increase the impact of our research.

Additionally, we are looking for someone that can leverage their deep research experience and innovative approach with clients to motivate, mentor, develop and retain a high performing team of consultative researchers at all levels.  With our rapid growth we have hired several new team members.  They are smart and ambitious.  Edelman Intelligence works hard to develop and nurture high performers, teaching the next generation of leaders as we grow.  That in mind, this person should be excited to be a hands-on educator and manager.  Additionally, this individual should have a deep interest in continuing the development of a strong team bond and positive team culture both of our offices on the west coast. 

Finally, this individual will serve as the operational leader of the San Francisco and Seattle offices.  The Edelman Intelligence team globally is close to 250 employees and growing.  As a key member of the leadership organization, they will work to develop a strong network with other senior management inside of Edelman Intelligence team.  They will act as the champion for the west coast as it scales – working with the larger Edelman Intelligence global leadership team to think through annual budgets and make the case for resources as the team grows.  They should be at a point in their career where they are ready to be accountable for the operational and financial performance of account teams, set timelines and ensure they are met, and quickly and appropriately address client requests and incidental events.

What are the requirements?

We know this isn’t a short list but hiring the right person is critical.  That in mind, we are looking for someone who:

  • Is a creative, consultative research expert focused with a 15+ year background in both primary and secondary research including research design, proposing methodology, and sample schemes.  More than that, this individual should have a background as a trusted client adviser.  Turning data into a compelling story will be second nature for the right candidate.  Experience as an adviser to the C-suite of large technology organizations is a huge plus.

  • Has a creative streak in them and is happiest when they are engaged on bespoke work that doesn’t follow standard templates.

  • Has proven they are invested in their clients.  This individual will be a highly skilled client manager and have a background in relationship building, business development, and client management.

  • Will have a creative streak.  They will bring a unique point of view on the future of our research methods and data visualization.

  • Is fluent in the language of marketing, public affairs, branding, communications, and business strategy – equally comfortable analyzing data and suggesting marketing strategy changes to a CMO.

  • Is genuinely excited by the business development process and are ready to grow relationships and find new clients that could use our help.

  • Is known to be an experienced hiring manager with a track record of hiring and retaining high quality team members at the leadership (VP) level.  They will have a track record of inspiring loyalty and trust on their teams and can point to individuals that they have managed who are now leaders at other organizations.

  • Has made the case for resources as a leader while taking the needs of a global organization to account.  The right candidates will also have a background in budget management and have helped manage a team to meet profitability goals.

  • Has shown to be invested in their team’s success and have the ability and desire to mentor and teach the next generation of leaders at Edelman Intelligence. 

  • Knows what it means to be in an agency setting – you are excited by growth and ready to be busy.
